GTA Online is relentlessly pissing me off by Rafiki 11/22/2015, 9:25pm PST
Start game, sit through stupid fucking logo videos. Wait to join online. Wait wait wait wait. Load in finally. All I want to do when I join online is immediately be able to jump in one of my fast cars and drive away. By default, the game puts you in your apartment which requires you to trundle through it and go to the garage. You can choose to load into your garage and jump into a car, but that's mildly irritating because I have to wait to exit the garage. I tried the "random location" spawn setting, but that's, well, random. The first time I loaded in I was spawned in the middle of nowhere and a literal fucking mountain range away from my car. I spent 10 minutes slowly running up a mountain and down the other side just to get to my car. Then I had to spend another 5 minutes driving into town. That's what I look for in my online multiplayer experience. Maximizing the time I waste. Maybe they can get rid of the heist matchmaker and spawn me in Orgrimmar so I can type "LFG Pac Standard" for 3 hours. I tried the "last location" spawn setting, but gave up on it when a failed heist mission left me in the middle of nowhere again. Back to spawning in my garage it is.

Speaking of heists and wasted time, for some FUCKING reason the order of operations for joining a heist is: load out of online session and close connection -> check to see if heist is full. Instead of the other way around. So what repeatedly happens is I load out of my online session, attempt to join a heist, fail, wait to reload back into an online session, fail because of some unspecified error, get returned to GTA Offline, wait for it to load into the single player game I don't want to play because it's boring, then hit escape so I can bring up the menu and attempt to connect to GTA online again. Wait for it to load. Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails to connect repeatedly and I have to quit and restart the game.

And this says nothing of the people with hacking mods that teleport across maps and trivialize heists. Or people that teleport into your car and kick you out. Or people that spawn neverending explosions on every player in the game.

When the game works as intended, online is great. Unfortunately it takes like 3 fucking hours to get 20 minutes of decent play time. Also, they need to add a heist option to limit weapons so it's not just 4 miniguns and grenade launchers, and to get rid of armored cars. Fighting enemies in a huge chaotic shootout is fun, driving into the middle of a crowd and slowly headshotting 50 guys from a perfectly still armored car is boring.
