I've been playing Ironcast off and on for about a month now and I finally beat the last boss. I don't feel like my victory had much to do with my skill level and everything to do with the fact that the RNG spat out blueprints for the best weapons and components in the game and the best perks at levelup, and didn't fuck me with the gem distribution in the fight. If I were to hazzard a guess, I'd say your skill maybe has 30% to do with your victory in this game.

Out of the 10 runs I tried, fucking NINE of them never gave me blueprints beyond level 2 all the way up to the French boss. Meanwhile every common enemy was rocking full sets of level 4 equipment. Half the runs I wouldn't even get a single shield blueprint.

That was a killer because shields are far superior to drives. Shield completely negate multi-shot & splash weapons and block up to roughly half the damage from single shot weapons. Drives evade 30-50% of all weapons. It's no contest. And since both draw from the exact same resources at the exact same cost, you just stick with shields and never touch walking all game.

Pick the character who gets bonuses to energy weapons? You'll get nothing but projectile blueprints all game. Character with the projectile bonus? Energy weapons galore.

Very first run where I actually got the blueprints I needed at the same level as the enemies and a shield blueprint? Not only did I beat the first boss for the first time, I went on to beat the final boss. Didn't even fall below half health doing it.

The Warwick mech has the most damaging weapon, the most health, and the best starting ability. Pick the character with the bonus to its projectile weapon. Never touch any other mech or pilot. Two of the pilots are worthless. Bonuses to repair and walking?

Oh, and the winning run also gave me an upgrade that instantly consumed every worthless repair gem on the board to make way for more useful gems. Repair gems are such a worthless waste of space, that perk ends up being by far the most useful in the game.
