My Struggle
Are there really people out there who still give a shit about the UFO coverup mythology? It was reset to something different every season in the original run and ended up going nowhere. This episode is all the worst writing habits of Chris Carter out in full force, with one laugh out loud moment when he tries to update it to the 21st century.
Verdict: skip
Founder's Mutation
A middle of the road monster of the week episode. Absolutely zero reason is given why Mulder & Scully are back working for the FBI.
Verdict: Watch
Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster
Written by Darin Morgan, the guy who was responsible for almost all of the best original episodes like War of the Coprophages (the cockroach one), Small Potatoes, Humbug, Clive Bruckman's Final Repose, and Jose Chung's From Outer Space. He was the best at the comedic episodes.
So how does this one stack up? It's...decent. But it feels like it's the first draft to what could have become a fantastic episode. Lots of moments and gags that felt like they needed refining. It also feels like the production was rushed. No great lighting or camera work, and a little too much telling instead of showing. A lot of flatly shot, uncreatively lit dialog scenes that remind you of the Star Wars prequels. Ultimately it feels like what would happen if George Lucas directed the first draft of a good script.
Verdict: Definitely watch
