EU was okay but the arbitrary linear strategic portion and the scripted crap of the tactical portion didn't make it compelling enough to bother with a replay. I wouldn't be interested in a sequel unless it really changed a lot of stuff.

Vastly improved. From what I've played of 2, they've done pretty much everything right this time. The maps are randomly generated to some degree, there's more mission types, the story is way less obtrusive, and the strategy layer mixes up territories and base locations and allows for some meaningful decision making, I think. I'm hoping no analogue of the terrible alien base missions turns up, but who knows.

It seems a lot harder. I've been playing on normal ("Veteran") Ironman and I've had my ass handed to me three games now, and the fourth has been kind of a shitshow so far too. In EU once you get over the hump and have a veteran squad kitted out with armour and laser rifles you're pretty much good to go, but even in the one game where I made it to the first armour and weapon upgrades I was still constantly scrambling to maintain enough troops to field a squad.

It's got Terror from the Deep difficulty on some missions, but I'd give it 8/10 NT by Rey Mysterio Jr. 02/07/2016, 5:28pm PST NEW
