On the other hand, doing the most obvious thing (killing the small pig in the Swine Prince battle) leads to an instant party wipe. Rather than lose valuable party members or grind out more runs while they recover, I almost just want to break out the walkthrough before every boss fight and where's the fun in that?
Other than that, the XP grind is really getting to me. I'm fine with the idea of a Rogue-like with high meatgrinder casualty rates, but not when it's coupled with such a sloooooooow level advancement trying to get new characters up to speed.
Two things:
One, it wasn't an instant party wipe. You had every opportunity to run after realizing you fucked up by killing the piglet. ESPECIALLY when you had heroes on death's door. Wanna know the value of the vestal over the occultist? As long as her initiative rolls place her ahead of the boss, your team is effectively immortal because that 1 HP she gives them all resets the death's door mechanic (not counting the mission-permanent debuff). I honestly haven't had a single hero die where I couldn't say that it was probably my fault.
Second, I'm having the exact opposite problem with XP. I decided that it's most cost-effective to just have one of every class in my team then run with the lowest leveled, mixing and matching their skills as the lineup demands. Now everyone's level 3 before I cleared all the level one bosses and they're refusing to take those boss missions. I'm stuck upgrading my barracks and training up a whole crew of newbs to take up the slack.
That said, the ONLY time you should do a short level 1 mission is if you have level 0 characters to bump up. Medium sized missions bring in more loot and let you use campsite skills to save a fortune on hookers. |
