They implemented an "XP" mechanic where teams get XP for making kills (of 'nauts or neutrals). XP turns into team-wide levels, which gives you a damage multiplier (i.e. a lvl 5 team's members will do more damage per-strike than a lvl 4 of the same character & loadout).
There's another new mechanic where killing an enemy 'naut whose level is higher than yours grants extra XP and solar, and this is supposed to introduce a "rubber-banding" phenomenon but it does not. What it does introduce is more snowballing: the team who gets first blood is probably going to win, because in melee matchups the higher-level 'naut will usually win because people naturally assume that, say, two Aylas whaling on each other will probably be equal and have to run away at the same time until somebody realizes that the lower-level Ayla cannot win. |
