One of the political sites that I sometimes frequent for their art reviews had a similar takeaway. They hated the film but didn't think it was any worse than any other recent superhero movie.

To be sure, Batman v Superman has been widely panned by critics. Yet, the venom with which critics have attacked it is a bit puzzling. After all, there is no plot convolution in this film more absurd than in the recent Marvel film The Avengers, and the pretentious musing about the nature of “gods” and “heroism” recalls the cheap philosophy of Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” films, all of which were hailed as “masterpieces” by numerous critics.


I haven't seen a superhero movie in years and this won't break that streak but I think everyone's using this as a cover to bitch about superhero movies in general because they don't want to admit that there's way too many of these films, they're too similar, and mostly boring and/or stupid. If you disagree, then you're in luck since there's over 30 planned over the next 4 years.
