On September 1st, Disney's Castle of Illusion is going back in the vault. by Dream Cast 08/29/2016, 4:59pm PDT Good riddance! I fucking hated that game. To the point where if my wife said she liked it, I would have to shoot her and then myself in front of our horrified children. It's a game where all you do is jump on or over things... and they made the jumping feel bad! Like, really, really bad. I couldn't tell you exactly what was wrong with Mickey's jump without the kind of extensive testing and frame-by-frame analysis usually reserved for Chun-Li's standing roundhouse, but I have my suspicions. For instance, did you know the elaborate charge-and-release leaping animations in the Donkey Kong Country series only start playing AFTER your little monkey has already left the ground, so he or she is crouching and springing while already in the air? It's almost imperceptible to the eye, but immediately obvious to the hand. (Miyamoto is on record insisting his characters jump when the button is pushed, even when it would make no logical sense.) Or maybe it has to do with not enough acceleration on the ascent, or not enough gravity on the descent, or who the hell cares. Like I said, I don't know precisely what's wrong with the jump, I only know it feels like Mickey's moving through gelatin - even when he's explicitly not supposed to be! Thankfully, if all you idiots can hold on to your wallets for just another couple days, you'll never have to find out. Cheers to Disney, jeers to Indiegala's last-minute clearance sale. Where are they now? The entire Australian Sega subsidiary responsible for this disappointingly hollow Cadbury's Egg of a game was sacked before it ever came out. However, according to the brief in memoriam section of the closing credits, way too many of them are potentially still alive - not haunting the bottom of a billabong where they belong >:( For a better Disney platformer, try the DuckTales remake.
