It's a departure, if not a wild one, from CE. The main changes are:
- Ghost trains work differently.
- Bombs work differently.
- Ghosts won't eat you unless you've made them "angry", which I think makes CE2 the first Pac-Man game where touching a non-blue ghost won't immediately kill you.
- Fruit will appear (and push you to the next board) before you've cleared a board. There are benefits to clearing it anyway, but it's not mandatory.
- First mode available is score attack, and you have to play that for a half hour or so to unlock "adventure mode", which looks to contain most of the content, and in my 1% completing of it, I think is a beefed up challenge mode... with boss fights!
The two things I'm not sure I like yet are:
- Ghost trains move much faster, but have their possible routes highlighted in the maze, so you're given hints on how to predict it. It's still pretty hard, and slightly annoying.
- "Runaway" fruit and power pellets, which sit still until you get near them, and then they take off, requiring you to chase down even more stuff.
- When you eat the ghost train's leader, you automatically eat all the followers, and it switches to this weird 3D animation while you eat 'em all.
The soundtrack is phenomenal.
Anyway, if you liked CE and/or CE:DX, I find it hard to imagine you won't find plenty to enjoy here.
