This game sucks by Rafiki 09/24/2016, 9:22pm PDT
Should I have posted this in the games you gave up early on thread? Because I'm giving up early. This game sucks. Giving the proton pack a fucking reload button? Fuck you, it's an energy beam. Oh, I'm sorry, it's to "vent" the heat from it. The time it takes until you need to "vent" just happens to coincide with the average machine gun clip of a video game, and the time it takes to vent just happens to be the average reload time. There's literally no reason to need to reload, there's no ammo, there's no strategic combat, it's just a complete nuisance. Guaranteed it's done because otherwise the entire game would just be "point cursor at enemy, hold down one button forever." They should have called this Ghostbusters: We Reskinned A Third-Person Shooter to Look Like Ghostbusters.

The actual ghostbusting is super boring. Point your cursor at a ghost until it's health bar (VERY SLOWLY) depletes, while strafing to avoid projectiles from the other ghosts surrounding you, then steer the weakened one into a trap. Repeat ad nauseam, which happens right around ghost #2. On level 2 you get an energy ball shot that kills smaller enemies in one hit but instantly causes your pack to overheat, so you get to run around helplessly not doing anything interesting. Press LT for boring. You don't even get a cool special effect as a payoff for waiting.

You don't really die, you just get knocked to the ground and need someone to revive you. This can happen infinite times, but the mission fails when everyone can't stand up. The NPCs naturally fall down all of the time, so you have to constantly drop everything to go play tard wrangler because if you don't it's pretty much guaranteed you're going to fail because you'll get swarmed and there will be no one to help you up.

The PKE meter / goggles have a similar problem as I had with the Batman games. It puts a hazy green filter over the screen, puts you in first-person making movement more difficult, and takes away the ability to shoot, but finding secrets and uncovering ghosts requires it so I find myself constantly in that view killing my eyes and slowly plodding through the environment looking for things to scan. So like Batman, I spend most of my time in an uglier view of the game.

All of the cast sound like guys sitting in a recording booth reading their lines, which, yeah, they are, but when there's a bunch of ghosts flying around trying to kill you and loud beams blaring, I would expect that maybe that's a situation where there might be a little tension and the need to yell to be heard over all of the other noise. Instead, it's just guys calmly reading lines.

This is just a dull, plodding, third-person shooter with some fan-service wank. This must have been savaged when it was first rel- 80%! Holy shit.
