"You Have to Win the Game" is an indie platformer with a retro aesthetic. It's done in the style of an old CGA game with cyan, magenta, black, and white graphics. The game even has simulated CRT blur and distortion.
It's screen-based (no continuous scrolling), and the sprite you control is pretty small. The bosses are stationary points that spew a storm of bullet hell projectiles that you have to dodge. It has some metroid-style elements in that over time you get the ability to double jump, wall-jump, etc.
The most similar game is probably one of the Knytt games. Or actually, maybe even Life-Ending Adventure.
Some sections are very difficult-- much harder than I remember any of the Knytt adventures being. The cruelty is limited by the frequent save points, though.
It's pretty good for a free game. Worth checking out if you like platformers. |
