Hillary is a huge egoist, and a triangulator, but she has beliefs. She believes in an interventionist foreign policy (US as world policeman in Bosnia, Syria, Libya, etc.). She is a fourth wave feminist-- she sincerely believed that electing a woman was important because she was so "underprivileged". Strong believer in gun restrictions and multiculturalism. She believes in looser immigration and free trade.
Trump is much more of a blank slate than Clinton. He wasn't even a registered Republican until recently. His policies change by the week. He is an authoritarian and a believers in big government guiding the economy.
Nobody wants to bring back the US economic policies of the 1930s except Ron Paul. Libertarianism, like communism, is a fringe movement with very little support in any big party. |
