Finally got around to seeing Blazing Saddles.
This is the movie that every modern best comedies of all time list puts at #1? I want to see the Internet Film Laser Squad article finished, if nothing more than for Seanbaby and Erik to continue preaching the truth about Mel Brooks.
Everybody knows the truth about Mel Brooks: he's horrible. He's a verbal comedian in a visual medium. He puts every joke and bit and piece of schtick he can think of into a movie and hopes some of them work. He is, yes, the white Rudy Ray Moore.
The most Brooksian joke is in Men In Tights when Robin appoints Ahchoo (Dave Chappelle) the new Sheriff of Rottingham, and everybody says "A black sheriff?". Then, right in the in the middle of the laugh, Chappelle says "Hey, worked in Blazing Saddles."
The parts you should have laughed out loud at:"Watch! Me! Faggots!" "You didn't tell me he was a nih!", the weirdo hangman, shitload of dimes, I parked near the commissary, "You better watch your ass", "We've got to protect our phony baloney jobs", cattle raped, authentic frontier gibberish, Gene Wilder quick draw, yiddish indians. These are all the ones I can remember. |
