In classic Microsoft style there was no concept of a "cart" that I could find so I made separate Paypal transactions.

I started out doing the same thing, until it became obvious I was going to exceed the transaction limit on my chequing account. If you know anything about me, you know I'm not the type of guy who lets himself get dinged 85 cents on a 124-cent purchase. So I started working on ways to defeat Microsoft's terrible checkout system. My first thought was to put a lump sum in my Paypal account. No dice. While Paypal lets you make purchases instantly, they impose a waiting period on deposits, ostensibly to comply with federal rules and regulations. I looked it up and apparently the rule or regulation they're complying with is the one that limits how long they can hold your money without giving you access to it. It's a few hours in the EU, six to eight BUSINESS DAYS in Canada, contact them if it takes longer than that and they will try to expedite things (no promises). Also there's no option to cancel your deposit after they tell you how long it's going to take. So I should have loads of money in my Paypal next week some time, maybe.

My next thought was to buy a single large-denomination gift card on the Microsoft Store. In the past they used to mail out a physical gift card in a cardboard box full of packing peanuts, but now they just e-mail it to you. So far, so good. The catch is, and you knew there had to be a catch, you can't use a gift card on the Xbox web store. Oh, you can redeem it, put the pretend money in your pretend wallet, but you can't make purchases with it. You need to do that directly through the dashboard of your Xbox 360. And no, you CAN'T connect to the Xbox 360 marketplace through your Xbox One, you need to be in the same room with one of the twelve... eleven remaining functional Xbox 360 consoles. Done and done. I'm now the proud owner of armloads of old games I'm probably never going to play and could've just pirated anyway.

Did you get the All-in-One Pack for your Capcom Arcade Cabinet? Store Parser dot com has it down as a late addition.
