Keep in mind Ben Kuchera spotted this as an unrealistic KS in 2012 when he was still reporting for PA. https://web.archive.org/web/20131221025111/https://www.penny-arcade.com/report/article/chris-roberts-star-citizen-needs-your-money-to-get-more-money-and-promises-

There is nothing to lose when it comes to promising things at this stage. The more people like a certain feature or idea the more people will give money. During production it’s likely that many of these features will be dropped, or pushed way back into an expansion or update.

Kuchera and Smart as the truth-tellers because Star Citizen is that obvious. Why do followers still hang on? Let's ask them: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/what-keeps-you-motivated-for-star-citizen/357594

don't need motivation, just patience. I watch ATV see where they've progressed, sit back, and wait

Mindless sheep.

So I bought a ticket to be a small part of the biggest rodeo in the videogames history.

Oh, yeah. These guys who say stuff like they funded for lolz or got their money's worth from the drama alone. As though paying money for a failure is smart. Just admit you cared once and you're as disappointed as everyone else.

Honestly my motivation is pretty simple CIG are the only developers out there trying to push Star Citizen into a truly next gen title while others are content with putting out standard AAA games.

What keeps me motivated...easy answer...I have a life...this is only a game...patience...and you will be rewarded when it happens...I guarantee that 99% of backers would rather wait for a clean, bug free game that a traditional AAA game with allot of the great features removed

A few still rail against the mainstream AAA bogeymen. But the majority admit that it's just sad pride and misplaced loyalty.

The amount of money I have pledged to date.. There's no going back for me now.

That's my answer as well and it scares me.

And mine also. I've got too much invested now to let it fail. I feel like the US Govt must have felt in the 2008 bank bailout.

The fact that I do not want to admit to myself how gullible and stupid I was to throw more than a base package's worth out of the window for this feature-creep "project" -- I am too deep in to turn back now, and I simply cannot admit that it was probably the biggest financial mistake I ever made to fall for the lies and deceptions of CR.

The fact that I have invested thousands into this game. But I'm done now. 3.0 has been delayed again. The summer has been wasted. I'm beyond disappointed. I didn't want to believe what people said about CR, and his history of delays, but I would be lying if I said I'm not loosing confidence in him.

These fans are gullible but I hope they sue Croberts for all he's worth since he'll be walking away with disappointment and their money.
