And I thought parking was expensive here by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 08/18/2017, 9:20pm PDT
If you take a look at this Google Street Map photo image, it is at the corner of Richmond and York Streets in Toronto, which is the building housing the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. At that building, is the entrance to its parking lot, which (as of the photo date was about May, 2016), was charging $5 per half hour. Now, Canadian money has historically been trading around $1 CAD == 75c USD (XE.COM has spot price now at 79c), for those in Europe. 0.68 EUR. But this is very expensive, $10CAD, $7.50USD, EUR 6.70 per hour.

To compare with local prices, I went online and you can pay for parking in many buildings in downtown Washington DC, one was charging USD$19 for any 12 hour period. If booked per hour it's probably close to the price in Canada, around $6-7USD per hour. It's also expensive to park here, but it's just as expensive if not more in Canada.

In downtown DC if you are extremely lucky you can catch a hot meter, i.e. a street meter someone has just exited as you are next to it, because if that parking space is empty for more than 30 seconds, someone will take it, but even at that, meters cost $2.30 an hour, so that's not much difference.

About the only place you can park for free downtown is the public library, but I wouldn't want to think what the fine is if you get caught leaving the library with your car parked in the basement lot.

I'm realizing I'm glad I no longer own a car nor would have any reason to go into downtown DC. When I had to do so, unless I was simply picking someone or dropping them off, I'd take the train and/or the bus as it would usually be much cheaper.
