| They released the final beta with the complete campaign included and after 10 years I'm REALLY underwhelmed. I beat it in an afternoon and to be honest, it's just Lugaru with prettier graphics.
Mind you Lugaru was a fun game, and there's definitely fun to be found here, but I would not buy this without a DEEP discount attached. So many features they teased over the years never made it in. So many implemented features that seemed meaningless, like realistic shrubbery sway or soft tissue ragdoll physics, proved meaningless to the gameplay. And I'm shocked at how lousy the blood effects ended up despite so much love and attention paid to them over development. The marks left by deep wounds just look like someone drew a line on your body with lipstick. However, it must be admitted that some of the graphics effects are truly beautiful, especially firelight at night. And hats off for the sound design. But the changes to the combat system are so tiny as to be almost unnoticeable. Either I'm better at games now, or the flying kick became much easier to pull off, to the point of being flat out superior to all your other moves unless you've got a weapon. Mind you I played at medium difficulty, so maybe the AI has a counter at max. It's not bad, not great, not worth $30. |
