It's like Thea in that everything is a bigger micromanagement pain in the ass than it should be.

Only 3 ships per battle with only 3 skill slots per ship seems way too limiting, especially considering all the combinations they obviously want you to play with.

Why doesn't it tell me what the dozens of status effects do until I've already inflicted an enemy with it?

Why do I need an officer for everything? Holy shit this one thing is keeping me from really liking the game. You spend 90% of your time fiddling around with assigning and reassigning your officers to goddamn every task in the game. Excavate a room on the station? Needs an officer. Go set up a drone satellite in remote system? Officer. Pick up resources? Officer. Research ship upgrade? Officer. Research cadet upgrade? Officer. Set up resource outpost? Officer. Upgrade resource outpost? Officer. Want your ships to not suck in combat? Officer, officer, officer. This officer is idle good god why are you wasting an idle officer go assign him to something go go go!. Wait, you thought building a ship or researching tech required an officer? What are you, stupid?

This wouldn't be so bad if the interface for locating and allocating officers wasn't so awful. Or limiting what they can do by class when it's a not obvious pain in the ass to quickly differentiate classes. At least in Darkest Dungeon you could easily tell what most of the classes do (tank, damage, support). Good luck telling apart physicists from inventors from science.

Most of the options seem useless. All you need is the officer room and higher tier ship hangars. Every other room is just a waste of money that slows you down and all they provide is stuff you'll have plenty of if your have a fleet that can kick anything's ass.
