Basically a meatier, more atmospheric Hero Quest set in the Lovecraft mythos. Right now the game is on the 2nd edition which has an app run all the behind the scenes rules.

Pros- You don't need a person to GM. Some rules crunching is eliminated to speed things up. Atmospheric music and narration play throughout.

Cons- Does not allow for GM fudging to help struggling players avoid being frustrated. Doesn't let you peak under the hood to get an idea of the rules or numbers behind things happening.

In general:

Pros- Simple to learn rules. Everyone gets 2 actions a turn: move, search a spot, or attack a monster. That's basically it and anyone can pick up and play.

Cons- A step down from the 1st edition in that you are given an extremely poor idea of how much time you have. People are going to try casually searching all clues but you don't have anywhere near the time to do that. Often the game will tell you there's only a turn or two left and that you should have been blitzing that shit. Also, $100 fucking dollars. Most of that goes to miniatures (some of which are 3"x2"x2") which really aren't necessary.

In summary, definitely get if you want to relive a better version of Hero Quest. It also renders stupid fucking Betrayal at House on the Hill (a game for babies) obsolete.
