Been fooling around with it. Tried the first game, but I had played it after Endless Legend and it just seemed like a crude prototype of the same system so I quickly lost interest.

It leans on the MOO2 side of things, mostly.

The main interest for me is how different the races act. There's the stock humans. There's a race that doesn't colonize planets but travel around in giant nomadic ark ships. There's an insect race that gets a +50% bonus to all production on new worlds but they consume and deplete planets over time until they're worthless husks and must constantly expand or die. There's the MOO Cylon race with the twist that they get an increasing bonus to researching technologies based on how few other races have discovered it. There's a race that expands by growing space vines to new systems, and all systems cut off from the homeworld instantly die. The space merchants don't build new colonies, they buy outposts that they can then develop or sell off. Then there's the boring stock humans.

Don't know if it will hold by interest beyond dicking around with the races. It's also really, really hard going back to the black background of space after the gorgeous (but shallow and broken) Endless Legend.
