| I gotta sleep soon but in short
0. I know this is dumb but no one recognizing our hero works fine in something corny like Supergirl but it just feels so fucking dumb in this gritty serious world. 1. Too much fucking vet messaging. I'm no Punisher expert but you gotta ditch the vet thing quick, it felt more like The Substitute in that he had his network of veterans. Then the actual bad murderer guy who's really crazy ... unlike Frank who is our kind of crazy. Also PMC billy russo is of course not only a piece of shit but an absolutely crazy piece of shit, I mean why would there be a decent PMC in any story ever? 2. Felt like we were watching the same story again. Daredevil S2 has the best punisher introduction because it's the one from the comic, he meets some other hero on a roof and shoots at them (insert the gunman edit if anyone still has it or remembers it). Like there is no war, he completes the war, he killed all the bad men and so he burnt his stuff and went to work hitting a brick wall. We've got nothing showing his sense of justice it's just like well more people tangentially involved in trying to kill your family (for reasons unknown) showed up, time to kill them and burn your stuff again. Without the war there isn't a punisher, this was just the substitute, with the gangs that killed his brother dead he returns to his normal life of not existing. 3. Frank is too emotional. I really like Bernthal and all the screaming and shit I like how he can play a decent human being and overall I like this idea of Frank, but the whole ending with the therapy circle was just too much for me. The Punisher doesn't talk about his feelings, he kills criminals. We never get another great scene like the one in the pawnshop from Daredevil S2, because it's just about completing one specific task. 4. The show basically glosses over frank being the triggerman in the video (which was obvious), never connecting the dots(hey I wonder if anyone else on my squad knew more about this?), and the ridiculous amount of rope he's given. The idea in the comics always was that cops loved him so they never really tried too hard to catch him, now it's just like they're letting him walk because he's the protagonist of the show. 5. There's all this set up and story to yet AGAIN reset everything and put us just where we were. Billy is in a coma he'll come out of, he'll rape/murder(depending on where netflix is on their rape quota) his mom, microchip's family, and maybe madani then frank will be the punisher again and then MAYBE he can just start murdering fucking criminals again. I can appreciate all the issues here like writing a story about a guy in a trenchcoat who runs around spraying up places like bullets in today's day and age, but who gives a shit? I'm firing up the tube to be entertained and if you want a left wing punisher go ahead, make him kill corrupt politicians fuck they should have put a little punisher sticker on the back car window of those 4 construction site thugs' car. I honestly don't care what punisher I get but I want him to be the punisher I want him waging a quixotic war against crime. The conspiracy arc was fine ... good even, but you can't get around the fact that the punisher murders anyone in organized crime. |
