I live in a city and I have a fence that allows me to pull my car up. We are having some construction done on the house and the contractors put a Dumpster behind the fence, thus making it so that I had to keep my car on the street. My old car was targeted by thieves twice. Both times, my neighbor was out and screamed at them, causing them to run away. The second time it happened they broke a window first. I'm telling this part of the story first so you know why I am eager for the Dumpster to be removed.
We have a very short driveway leading up to the fence. It is about the length of a single car. I mention this to give a visual - it is very easy to block.
We got word that the contractors are going to remove the Dumpster today. This is great news. I'll be able to move my car past the fence and not worry about criminals screwing with it. Only... only! Only last night someone parked a car2go car in front of our little driveway.
We called them up at 5:00PM last night when we noticed it. "We'll have a member of our reposition team right out." We called them at 7:30PM and 8:30PM and this morning at 8:00AM. Each time they lied to us. "We'll send a member to reposition it right away."
So, we could have had it towed at any time. Before this experience I honestly thought that car2go was doing something good for the city. It can be difficult to afford all the associated costs with a car. Sometimes you just need a car for a little bit. They seemed like they had a good pricing model, although I've learned that there's now a flat $5 fee every time you use one in addition to the mileage fees. I did some reading and they honestly don't care if their cars get towed. They figure that into the expense of their business, I guess. What kills me is the blatant lying they do on the phone. To think that over the course of 16 hours they can't send someone over to move it - this isn't helping the members of a community of they can't control their shit. In fact, they could have said last night, "Nobody is coming, go ahead and tow it." They are hoping that someone just decides to use it and moves it for them. I didn't want to stick them with the tow fee but honestly, if that is their method for handling people blocking driveways then they deserve as many tow fees as they can get.
