PS4 impressions, 2 years late to the party by fabio 12/25/2017, 8:43pm PST
The last console I bought was a PS2 in the summer of 2001. Here's all the ways the PS4 has made me feel like an old man:

I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to open the eject tray so I can put in the disc. I hit the eject button and just get a double beep. I try holding it down. Nothing. There is no operation manual in the box. Finally I give up and go online only to find out that consoles don't use disc trays anymore; you just shove the disc in and the eject button only spits it out if there's a disc in there.

There is a "share" button right on the controller so millennials can upload their gameplay session straight to Twitch and Youtube (or the Playstation network equivalent? Who knows what kids are using now. Not on MY lawn!). This has replaced the "select" button, a staple since the NES.

I go through a dozen steps setting up my profile and preferences before the screen that can even play games comes up.

The system came with Star Wars Battlefront II. Who gives a shit? I put it in just to show off the graphics to the assembled family. It has to do an 8 gig install before it can even start up. I start it up, and now it says it has to do a 16 gig update download before I can actually play. Estimated time: 3 hours. Remember when consoles meant you could just put the disc in and play right away? Imagine being a kid getting this Christmas Eve and then being told it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow morning. Or coming home with a new game from the store and having to wait one quarter of your waking day until you can actually use it. I can bring home frozen meat from the grocery store and have it thawed out, cooked, and ready to eat in a shorter amount of time than getting to play a console game that I already have the disc for. This is where we're at in gaming right now. THIS is how they and their $60 games (+ online subscription fee) compete with PCs and Steam?

An actual plus: wireless controllers with rechargeable battery that can be charged with any generic USB charger. Why are consumable batteries still a thing? How much restraint did it take for them not to force you to use an exclusive, overpriced SontyTM charge cable like NintendoTM surely would would have?

Bloodborne is good, but not "reason to buy a PS4" good.
