It worked because the focus of the story was the Donnie Brasko relationship between White and Orange, not the heist. It's stretching what can be called a flashforward though. It was mostly a straight chronological telling with flashbacks.

Unless I'm not remembering Pulp Fiction's timeline jumble right, isn't Vincent's death 2/3rds of the way through?
