Impressions of Lincoln (2012) from a non-American. by Pirate DVD Review 01/10/2018, 10:02pm PST
Holy shit, this guy was awesome! It's too bad he led such a boring life. And how fucking long was it? He's probably still out there somewhere, sitting thoughtfully on a wooden chair in a nondescript little room, listening to popular character actors stiltedly debate parliamentary procedure. Or whatever the American equivalent of parliament was, some kind of cross between a church and a hog pen it looked like. The most dramatic moment in the whole film came when Tommy Lee Jones DIDN'T flip his shit like Al Pacino in any kind of courtroom setting, instead calmly reciting from his prepared remarks before going home and crawling into bed with his scandalous wife, who proceeded to read the complete text of an actual bill. The possibility that any of what I've said so far might count as a spoiler should be indictment enough for a movie that has probably stolen more of coloured people's precious time than the entire institution of slavery.

Lincoln himself seemed like a pretty cool guy, though. At least now I understand why Captain Kirk was so stoked about teaming up with him on that one planet. They should bring Lincoln back for the next Star Trek, he needs a chance to redeem himself after presiding over the most uneventful two and a half hours in American cinema history.
