Dark Souls' save system works because the entire game is about accumulating knowledge and while you might lose some XP you never really lose progress and are constantly unlocking shortcuts and learning more about the game. This is even true of reloadfest games that I hate. It's never going to be true in an open world skyrim-style game. When you lose progress you have to go back and do the same exact shit you did before because if you don't do that shit you won't know if it locked you out of something. Since the games aren't linear having limited saves is pretty dumb. It'd be fine if it had some auto-saving but I mean the game didn't even have a method for letting you save when you realize it's 3AM and you need to wake up in four hours, it's just fucking oversight.
I honestly don't even know what's hardcore about the game, I think it caters to those types but I don't even think they fucking know what they want anymore and are way more interested in the idea people disliking these games than they want to enjoy them themselves. If you get it on PC, use a save mod, and just poison your weapons right when you can it's not that hard, and neither should it be, if you're not there for fun quests you've got the wrong game.
As far as the culture war nonsense, if you don't want to buy a guy's game because he wore a Burzum t-shirt for all of gamescom, that's totally fine. If you don't want to buy the game because he was a gamergate guy that's fine too. I don't think Daniel Vavra is a great guy but I don't really feel that I need to boycott a game because he's involved in it. |
