| Some countries especially in Europe - especially in the UK - have large Middle East populations that come from countries such as Pakistan where marriages between first cousins are common.
As creepy as this might be, if it was just first cousins fucking it might not be an issue. It's that they are having kids, and in some cases the interbreeding is too close and these kids get various genetic diseases which are not very common in populations where the degrees of consanguinity - that's the technical term for how close you are to someone you are or are considering being sexually active with and/or marrying or having kids - is much more distant. Now so you understand, here's what I'm referring to. There's you. Your brother or sister is the same degree of consanguinity. Your parents or your children are one degree of consanguinity. The brother of your father or mother is your uncle; the sister of either of your parents is your aunt; you are their niece or nephew. The child of your aunt or uncle is the person I'm referring to as "cousin" or "first cousin." A second cousin is a child of a first cousin. Apparently second cousin marriages are distant enough that they generally don't have the kind of genetic problems cousin marriages do and the genetic birth defect rate seems to be no worse than in strangers. Now in the U.S. we do have rules on this too. I once looked at the State of West Virginia, which is the stereotypical "poster child" of a state where it's considered people are marrying (or fucking) people whose degrees of consanguinity are too close, or, as the joke goes, "What's the definition of a West Virginia virgin? A girl who can outrun her brothers." So, anyway, there are two sets of rules set up in the laws. Prohibited levels of consanguinity to marry, and the prohibited levels for fucking, known as incest. For marriage, we look at West Virginia Code §48-2-302. Prohibition against marriage of persons related within certain degrees. Subsection (a) reads, "(a) A man is prohibited from marrying his mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, half sister, aunt, brother's daughter, sister's daughter, first cousin or double cousin. A woman is prohibited from marrying her father, grandfather, brother, son, grandson, half brother, uncle, brother's son, sister's son, first cousin or double cousin." For fucking, we look at West Virginia Code §61-8-12. Incest; penalty. First, it defines what a son, daughter, and other relatives are, and what sexual intercourse (penetration with penis) and sexual intrusion (penetration with object) is. Then it defines incest."(b) A person is guilty of incest when such person engages in sexual intercourse or sexual intrusion with his or her father, mother, brother, sister, daughter, son, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter, nephew, niece, uncle or aunt." So let's look at what's covered as prohibited under both. Father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, grandfather, grandmother, brother or sister's daughter (niece), brother or sister's son (nephew), granddaughter, grandson, aunt or uncle. So, in West Virginia it's perfectly legal to fuck your first or second (double) cousin, but you just can't marry them. Same for your half-brother or half-sister. What do you think about first or second cousins marrying or being sexually active but not marrying? |
