| Sometimes even a dumping ground like itch.io has a hidden diamond or two.
Clone Drone in the Danger Zone (which should win a prize for best name) is a roguelike version of the Jedi Knight sequels to Star Wars: Dark Forces. As of this posting it's still early access, but it's stable and very, very playable right now. The premise is you're a human who's been kidnapped by a borg-like race of alien robots who downloaded your mind into a sword robot then sent you to fight to the death in their gladiator arena while two robots designed to look like sports commentators make blackly humorous jokes at your expense. It's a third person fighter with FPS-esque controls where you control a robot made of voxels armed with a laser sword dismembering other voxel robots then picking up upgrades between each fight. Your sword cuts clean through enemy robots, and can be upgraded to bounce laser arrows back at the shooter, but the enemies in turn completely outnumber you. Like I said before, Jedi Knight is the best comparison in terms of gameplay, but if you're too young for those games, it's like a faster and floatier version of Mount and Blade. Protip: Just about every attack in the game is massively improved when combined with the jet pack upgrade, especially the kick. Recommended! |
