| I ordered some diatomaceous earth via Amazon because nobody carries it in this area in food grade. I happened to spill some on my shirt - and this stuff is more like cake mix than anything I've seen - an amount equal to maybe 3 tablespoons, and I brushed it off, then was able to catch a roach and drop it on some on the floor.
Boric Acid is nasty; it tends to be quick-kill. This stuff makes the roach get palsy in more and more severe condition over about a ten second period, before I felt sorry for the roach and delivered a coup de grace and crushed him. So diatomaceous earth is slightly less toxic since I've seen boric acid drop-ons kill a roach in less than five seconds. I suspect the diatomaceous earth has one advantage over boric acid: the roaches apparently can't smell it as they tend to avoid entering areas processed with boric acid. I havee not noticed this behavior when they come near areas treated with DE. |
