I saw some show on the Food channel about regional food, and they said Indiana had this ridiculous sandwich, a pork tenderloin that is like three times as big as the bun.
Never had one in my life. Never even seen one of these things in person.
The area around Gary Indiana is a little... different from the rest of the state, so it makes sense. Everybody else talks like hillbillies and we sound like savages so it would make sense I guess that we would eat different things. I figured we didn't have anything unique for the longest time. Then a year or two ago, I read an article in the Chicago Tribune about some guy opening a "Northwest Indiana style" hamburger restaurant in the city, and that's when it hit me. Of course! That's why I was unimpressed with In N Out Burger. Bah! Where I'm from, we know hamburgers! Everything else is glorified Wendy's.
The key is the crusty edge of the succulent patty, and you find it at several restaurants around here. Fucking delicious. Took a buddy from out of town to try one of these burgers, he ordered a triple. Asked him if he was sure about that because one patty is an awful lot of fucking beef. He was sure, and he couldn't lift the bun and had to use a fork. But he demanded we return one day. Also, I finally tried, after everybody raving online about it, this Chik Fil A place. All they have is the chicken sandwich that is a poor copy of the chicken sandwich this same restaurant has. |
