I remember finding it very frustrating because I could go everywhere I could find but couldn't figure out what it expected me to do.

If you can scare up a copy of Wings of Fury that was an underappreciated classic for the Apple IIc. I also fondly remember playing Murder on the Zinderneuf, a game that would be fun to rewrite as a toy side project. Autoduel and Ultima IV were the best games I played on it. (and The Bard's Tale of course.)

I bought a flash drive-style unit for it, so I'll try out both of those games. I wanted to write an update on what a shitshow some of this stuff is.

Some games like Choplifter and Autoduel require a joystick. The Apple IIc takes a 9 pin joystick. Proper Apple joysticks are going for 89-109 bucks on eBay and that seems to be the only place to get them. It can't be overstated how useless an Apple IIc is without a joystick.

There are adapters that are supposed to allow you to use 15 pin joysticks, but nobody is making or selling them right now.

I bought a new in box joystick from a person on eBay who, I guess, was cleaning out an estate sale or something. For $49.99. The description said that it would work on IBM and Apple computers, but she didn't take a picture of the pins. I bought it. It doesn't work. I waste two weeks trying to find an adapter. Finally I say "fuck it" and relist it on ebay. I specifically say COUNT THE PINS on whatever you're going to use it for and I check the box for no refunds.

Guy buys it, receives it, asks for a refund because he didn't count pins. The contempt I have for this asshole is high because I made the same mistake, I just had the dignity to relist the item rather than whine at the seller. Which I should have done so I was through with this albatross. I asked around and apparently no Apple computer has a 9 pin output, so I have an IBM PC joystick I paid way too much for. Great.

I eventually paid for a joystick made by a dude in Korea, we'll see how that goes.
