I'm happy to talk about this with you guys, and I really appreciate the OP using the right base for such a discussion.
I think I was logged into the wrong Twitter account when I made my first post and I didn't give enough of a shit to fix it. I actually watched the video in question and the kid is trying SO hard to put together something that will help people. The Verge sucks, games journalism sucks but this guy put his face to it. What struck me was just how pearl-clutching the PC Master Race types got.
I've assembled computers in the back of a Chevette. I've done so on the floor of a filthy apartment (not mine) and a filthy apartment (mine). I've had video cards left out on shelves for months, layered in dust and plugged them in when the card that was supposed to replace them failed. I have juggled RAM sticks like golf balls on carpet of a pile most high. I worked at AMD for 5 years and there was one person there - one! - who used static wrist guards. (She was the circuit board op, the only professional in our department.) Now, I've also been electrocuted by arcade games, I've broken the necks of at least three monitors and threw a monitor into a six foot garbage Dumpster where I am sure it imploded on somebody at some point. So I don't want to imply that there aren't Best Practices in the realm of computer hardware.
But the fucking mewling and crybaby preening of these assholes who made sure to tag the kid and make him feel like shit ... what a bunch of fucking losers. The best part is that these autistic sperglings are shit humans from either perspective - either they were as sloppy as me and just pretending to be mad because there was an "enemy" or they really do assemble their computers in sterile environments, pushing their glasses up their nose as they measure out the correct - what was it, thermal paste? - to the last milliter.
And three months later they are still crying about it, albeit from accounts that literally have one Twitter post or one follower. Because they are pussies. Those of you that supported and still support gamergate - this is why everyone thinks you're racist. The guys on Twitter are giving a black kid a hard time three months later, still tagging him and the account I used, whereas every other caper to hit the outrage cycle dies in 48 hours.
