I miss when things were normal.
My aunt passed away a few months ago. My cousin is not taking it well. She has posted something about it on Facebook every day for months. I keep thinking, you know what this is going to do, is make it so that from now on, every time you log onto this thing, it's going to put up a reminder from last year when you were sad about your mom dying. I know this is true, because my sister did it when my mom died in 2012 and she just keeps on reposting that stuff ad infinitum. Eventually that's all Facebook will be: remembrances of loss and reminding dead people to wish each other a happy birthday.
Anyway, at Thanksgiving, my cousin said to me "was I careless with you seven years ago? Did we hang you out to dry when it was your mom?" and what I said was meant to reassure her that I wasn't mad about it but it also unintentionally sounded like an indictment of how she's been acting. What I said was "you know, in a lucky family everybody eventually lives to see their parents die."
This stuff is getting harder because we're getting older. As the pendulum swings, tragedy becomes the new normal, I suppose. I think this is where religion was supposed to help us? No atheists in foxholes, as they say. When you're in your 20s you get bored of going to weddings, when you're in your 70s you probably get tired of going to funerals.
I've always had two of these..."forums," this videogame one and an electronic music one. In the electronic music one we've lost some people. One guy died, he was younger than me. He was engaged to be married, they moved the wedding up to two days before he passed away. We used to talk about DJ gear. I don't know what happened to the rest of the people that used to come to this site but I hope things are going well for them. I hope the rest of 2019 goes better for you ICJ. |
