The website you linked isn't the New York Times. It is the New York Post. They are different organizations.

How dare they take a break from the 24/7 news coverage of Trump! Personally, I would like to see less news coverage of Trump, and more news coverage of anything else. I can wait for Mueller to finish his investigation-- I don't need to read randos guessing about what he might (or might not) say.

Also, AOC has made expanding public transit a big part of her platform. She chose her platform, not "her buddies in the media."

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to save the planet with her Green New Deal, but she keeps tripping over her own giant carbon footprint.

Brave.

Well, her carbon footprint is giant. Anyone who flies a lot has a giant carbon footprint because planes emit a huge amonut of CO2. In general flying X miles emits at lesat as much CO2 as driving X/2 miles. And yes, that assumes the plane is full and we amortize emissions per passenger.

This is basically the "Al Gore's jet" argument, and it's nothing new. If Al Gore is so worried about global warming, why does he have his own personal jet? Gore would no doubt answer that he flies around doing Very Important Things like convincing Important People at Davos to commit to five-year carbon reduction plans. His detractors would say that he is just selfish and a hypocrite.

Personally, I am willing to give AOC a pass for her plane trips. She wants to be a presidential candiate, and that requires a lot of travel. She is proposing building more trains. But they haven't actually been built yet, so we can't really criticize her for not using them.

I am less willing to give her a pass for using so many Uber rides. The New York subway exists, and it's actually pretty good. If her organization can't use the subway as much as similar ones in the city, we should find out why.

And while she is quick to dispense all sorts of planet-saving tips to her constituents and fans, telling a high-school assembly in Queens last month that they should “skip disposable razors and switch to safety razors” and “skip meat/dairy for a meal,” she doesn’t always take her own green advice.

So, so brave. "A famous person can't take a bicycle places."

No one is asking her to personally take a bicycle. It would just be nice to know why her organization (not even her personally) can't use public transit as much as similar orgniazations.
