I'm seeing this come up more and more in cases where it should not come up at all.
I went to pay my phone bill today. I am on a new computer.
Verizon's website saw a PC it didn't recognize ("Oh, so, a PC?" -- Steam) and wanted to send a multi-factor authentication code to my phone. Sounds good, right?
I don't know. The first thing I would try to do if my phone was stolen would be to login to the website and let them know and turn it off or whatever. I am probably overestimating what can be done. But I would do that rather than call because I don't have, in this case, my fucking phone.
What possible benefit is there for MFA in this case? They had other options for this very important code, like email, which someone who stole my phone would probably have access to.
Do you guys hate MFA? Maybe it's just me. |
