Of late it seems there’s a new story about me somewhere on the net every day, or near enough to make no matter. Many get things wrong. For the most part I ignore them. I have better things to do than try and track down every weird rumor or out-and-out fabrication that pops up on some obscure website trolling for traffic.

Every so often, however, one of these stories gains an improbable currency, and just chuckling at the insanity no longer suffices.

That seems to be happening right now. All of a sudden this crazy story about my finishing THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING years ago is popping up everywhere. No, I am not going to provide links. I don’t want to reward purveyors of misinformation with hits.

Fine with me, I won't link to you either! I will however have the common decency to copy/paste: http://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2019/05/13/idiocy-on-the-internet/

Anyway I was thinking about what made Game of Thrones so terrible. It's not that the story is bad, but the way it's told. Take this Euron the sea pirate, may as well be a new character for the show. Just as a character, he'll have his arc. Dave & Dan know he has to confront Jamie in the end, so as Jamie makes it to the beach, Euron just happens to wash up on shore that second, and the scene starts. It's all very convenient but let's get on with the exciting fistfight scene. Which we all know how it's going to end because everything has been this convenient. It's like if they were making a jigsaw puzzle Dave & Dan go along and cut out the pieces, make sure it's all snug then they paint their characters inside each little piece. The characters must fit inside their pieces whether it makes sense or not. Now George, he paints the characters inside the pieces and the shapes then must somehow fit together. So with George, I'd imagine when Euron first fights Dany and the two dragons, the bolts would break off the dragon's fucking scaled armor. Then he'd pull this Luke Skywalker move, see, close his eyes and shoot, and the bolt goes through the dragon's eye, taking it out. Have him explain he had communed with the three eyed raven himself as a boy, just like Bran. Make the guy a little mystical, just with an offhand line of dialog. When Dany shows up the second time, would it have been so fucking hard to show Euron with a spyglass instead, spotting the the greatest smuggler planting the skiff? He realizes it's probably Jamie come to save Cersei, so he hops in a skiff himself and starts rowing for shore. It all would have made sense, why they now couldn't shoot a dragon, why Euron just happens to show up, but Dave & Dan can't be fucking bothered.
