| I bought a bunch of games from Desura. Then Desura went tits-up. Those games that were DRM-free I had burned to disk and I still play some of them to this day. Those that weren't DRM-free are gone like a fart in the wind, my money too. I've had various other indie games with various other forms of DRM go tits-up over the years and those games are gone too. But if GOG goes tits-up, I've got backups. And about the only other posts I'm reading here lately are all about how the Epic store is throwing money around, trying to muscle Steam off its perch.
Also I don't like frontends, Steam or GOG galaxy. I'm already embarassed that GOG advertises the triple-digit number of games I've bought from them every time I write a review blurb, money that could have gone toward pornography. When I finish a video game, I want to let out a contented sigh and say, "That was fun!" I DEFINTELY don't want some frontend telling me and all my friends the depressing number of hours of my life I wasted getting to that ending, turning me into the daughter's ghost in "Our Town" screaming to the narrator, "I CAN'T I CAN'T GO ON IT GOES SO FAST WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT ONE ANOTHER!!!" Also, when I ask about a game here, I'm looking for opinions and discussion from other folks on top of whether or not I decide to purchase the game. "Just play the demo" is about as much of an energy suck as "Just Google it!" Some of the best posts on OMM/Caltrops have almost nothing to do with the game in question. "Yes, and," people! |
