To be fair, the big thing going around Gen Con in the years I went was "diceless" RPGs and greater emphasis on group storytelling.
But once I got to college all I found were psychotic min-maxers who basically played like it like a wargame, or people who were so damn casual about the experience that they ran roughshod over the story and setting to give stage to their "wacky" humor.
Maybe I just had bad luck with the groups I tried out, but this was nothing like getting gothed up and LARPing Vampire: the Masquerade at the rich kid's house in high school. |
