After the honeymoon, how am I supposed to put this? Oh right, MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH by Mischief Maker 08/17/2019, 5:52am PDT
*sigh* Wonderful aesthetics joined with terrible gameplay. This isn't like Trine 2 where you have great aesthetics joined with mediocre gameplay so you can let the visuals and music carry you along, this is more like 9 Parchments where the gameplay is so bad all the pretty in the world won't redeem it.

The problem is it's a really shallow game that tries to cover up that fact with an unnecessary meta layer of complexity on top. The complexity is this whole cognition point system that your tech priests need to do ANY FUCKING THING in the game except use pathetic 1-2 damage weaponry. The problem is you only get cognition points by examining specific glowing obelisks scattered around the map. And it's a shared pool between all your tech priests. I actually found in one run attempt that it's more efficient in the earlygame to take only one priest and nothing but disposable meatshield servitors so he can hog all the cognition points and upgrade points until he's filled out the ranged combat tree and just turns into a death machine from all the class damage bonuses.

Which only serves to expose the shallowness. Once you figure out a way to circumvent the cognition point limit, and my method was just one of many, you find that the combat is really shallow (no cover system, all shots are auto-hits) and really easy. Because they implemented this cognition point system to stymie the player, they had to make the necrons really fragile so the player could put up any kind of fight. But once the player gets around the cognition point limit the whole thing is a ROFLstomp.

And the whole cyborg customization aspect is a huge disappointment. Most of the upgrades are visually spectacular but in gameplay just something boring like (+1 HP +1 Energy Shield) or something like that. I had ideas in my mind about a tech priest who was just a hornet's nest of tentacles with guns, but beyond the cognition point system ruling out fun things like alpha strikes you're hardcapped at two guns and one melee weapon.

And as much as I praise the aesthetics, the best parts are between missions where you're on the adeptus mechanicus ship surrounded by body horror cyborgs speaking in electronic warbles. I always thought necrons were an unimpressive design, and a whole planet of the things is even less impressive. Good thing the music is great everywhere.

Such a disappointment. If the damn thing hadn't been so pretty I would have bailed on it much sooner. Avoid.
