Bezos said "space travel. That's basically it", before cruising off in his latest superyatch, The Flying Fox.
This is a common corporate move. Cuts for non-fulltime employees, then start shaving the hours for the rest of the staff so nobody is legally fulltime outside of the front office making these decisions.
I'm not sure Bernie has a solution for guarding against the underlying business practices at hand.
So, I get it, I'm not a left wing nut in real life. Bezos isn't the first, it's just that he is so goddamn rich, stuff like this is dumb.
But a lot of times you'll see a discussion about something like this and replies go- nope, no way to fix it. Can't be done. You didn't and aren't doing that, but it does happen. But to me, it's a little easier. Just pass a law - if you're paying zero in federal tax then every one of your employees gets full time employee medical care for the next 10 years. Hell, pass a law that specifically goes after Amazon.
Bezos appearing in Super Bowl ads, to me, means he'd love to be thought of along the same lines as Jobs and Gates. This would be a case where tech journos could destroy his image for pulling shit like this, but they won't. They should. |
