I'm the opposite. Loved 3, hated 4. It felt like an incomplete fan mod of 3. by Mischief Maker 01/05/2020, 8:14am PST I'm replaying 3 right now and it's just a better game in every way. The enemies are more diverse with wildly different combat patterns between gangs (Eurotrash use giant trolls and helicopter snipers, Hackers use zwee-fighting rollerblades with giant electro hammers, Luchadores blanket the area in mini grenades, Anime Military uses laser tanks, etc.) while the enemies in 4 are just aliens in elon musk pickups who stand still and shoot at you, but the SUPER aliens jump real high, then just stand still and shoot at you. SR4 at its craziest has you fall from the sky and cause a non-interective cutscene of a nuclear blast, SR3 at its craziest has gigantic emergent battlefields with exploding vehicles falling from the sky left and right. The superpowers are nifty, but with the exception of downtown the city of steelport just is not designed vertically enough to accommodate them. Plus the enemy AI certainly can't cope with your powers, which is why so many story missions zap you with de-powering grenades at the start. SR5/Gat out of Hell, for all its flaws, had better superpowers with a city designed to show them off. And story and humor were much better in 3. Depending on the voice you took, your character had a completely different personality and motivations. Whereas in 4 they're basically 6 voice actors reading from the same script and they took out my favorite Boris & Natasha Russian accent lady and replaced her with a boring southern belle. Plus the jokes in 3 aged much more gracefully than 4, Trump was already president when gog finally got 4 and the central gag wasn't that shocking a premise anymore. I really don't care about Johnny Gat and the deep personal motivations driving my supporting cast (Kinsie hates the 50s? Am I supposed to give a shit?) Plus when the premise of the game is the world you're fucking up isn't real, the people running and screaming are just NPCs, and the mayhem you're causing is 100% consequence-free in the story, it sucks all the magic out of a GTA-clone rampage.
