The Philadelphia Story is the story of men telling Katharine Hepburn she's a cunt until they break her. It's a romantic comedy! Her ex-husband tells her she's a cunt because she didn't stick by him when the going got rough (he was a physically abusive alchoholic). Her father tells her she's a cunt because she didn't adore him enough, forcing him to cheat on her mother with a much younger woman to satisfy his ego. Jimmy Stewart shows up to tell her she's a cunt for coming from a wealthy family at a time when, for the rest of the country, it's literally The Great Depression. In the end, she apologizes to her father and remarries her ex-husband. Jimmy Stewart learns the rich aren't so bad after all.
If this movie's good for anything, it's exposing the hypocrisy of women, because they fucking love it. Apparently it's okay to watch a flawed woman getting degraded for two hours in a movie about a flawed woman getting degraded, but show a flawed woman getting degraded for one minute in a movie about Chris Pratt and suddenly you're an ebil massagenist. 5/10 |
