If they don't do this, people will be bitching about differences in pay, since your pay is determined by your level, plus a cost-of-living adjustment. So if a bunch of existing people move to different areas but keep their existing COL adjustments, they'll effectively be paid more for the "same level of work" (according to the HR drones).
You could ask why COL adjustments are even a thing, and furthermore, why employee one should even consider himself or herself with what employee two's pay is. Good questions, but this is the world we live in today.
Also, Facebook tends to pay more than most of the other FAANG companies. So even if FB cuts your salary by 5% you might still be paid more than at Google. So you don't need to get mad about this. Feel free to allocate your rage to other shitty things that Zuck has done or will do. |
