There's a lot to be said about doing retarded Instagram posts at a party instead of suited up in gear. Maybe high school and police academy isn't enough when graduates can be on the beat the age they they can legally drink. It's probably too much to ask to require college degrees for cops because it would fuck over poor black and Latin recruits.
Academia once trained police and it was went well! 60s UC Berkely really did ruin the world.

As a condition of staying at Berkeley, the school had to look more like a traditional academic department. It would have to hire Ph.D.‘s from the social sciences, eliminate vocational coursework and focus on graduate education. Several former officers who were on faculty left the department for more hospitable workplaces. Dean Wilson went on to become the chief of police in Chicago and was replaced by Joseph Lohman, a sociologist from the University of Chicago who also worked as Cook County Sheriff.
After 1960, the school became a place for sociologists to study crime.
Policing is more useful to society than sociology. Maybe they can take time away from analyzing Harry Potter to figure out how to make it "intellectual". |
