x86 is a shit instruction set, Intel only has inertia. NT by The Happiness Engine 07/06/2020, 4:06pm PDT
Is it going to be ARM who replaces it? Probably. Is it going to be this ARM design? That's a wide-open question, but I think ARM's model of "design whatever you want to optimize, pay us a license fee." has a lot better shot than whatever the fuck Intel has been up to the last decade (side-channel attacks in hyper-threading IIRC.)

The broader question is more what will computing look like in the future. Is it going to be game consoles and cloud? Will we plug our phones into a desktop-dock at work and compute that way? (already on the edge of viable with chromecast and a bluetooth keyboard. If your job is spreadsheets why not just Google Excel and fuck that $2000 macbook?)

I can't remember the last time a job issued me a desktop, and I laughed at the most recent one to ask. Do I need to lug 15" of screen everywhere or can most people actually get by on a 6" phone, as everyone who currently does not give a shit about PC gaming already does?
