The choice of director makes me cautiously optimistic.by Mischief Shai-hulud 09/09/2020, 5:33pm PDT

All the expository dialogue from the Reverend Mother in the trailer is direct quotes from the book.
Gom jabbar not even close to touching Paul's neck, draining any tension from the scene. Jason Momoa as Aquaman again as Duncan Idaho.
He also played Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. Momoa is not someone I would have expected but I actually say he's a brilliant choice. Momoa is charismatic AF and that's one of the key character traits of Duncan Idaho; the reason he was chosen as the advance diplomat to the Fremen.
The casting decision that I think is a mistake is Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck. Maybe if they shaved his head, but he is not ugly enough to play Halleck. Why is Brolin constantly miscast as the crusty older ugly character in movies, he is too young and too good-looking for those parts.
So who wrote this? ...oh God, Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. The writers of Prometheus, Passengers, Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump, and ALEX KURTZMAN'S THE MUMMY.
This is going to be soooo bad.
If this were an original script I'd share your assessment, but this is an adaptation. If there's one lesson to be learned from Game of Thrones, it's that a chucklehead writer can still churn out a decent script if there's a solid book to bounce off.
Denis Villeneuve is about the only contemporary director I can think of with a weird enough vision to possibly do the book justice. I'm quite confident it'll be superior to the Lynch version. I just hope they scale back the darkness filter.
Motherfuckers, you don't get the luxury of "only in theaters" during a pandemic!
