"The Irishman" belongs in the same category as "Harakiri" and "Unforgiven" as movies that act as an absolute refutation of their genre. Every time a gangster is introduced, the screen freeze-frames and gives the date and manner of their death. It's the life of a man who kills people for a living and the unglamorous emptiness of such an existence.
"Kill the Irishman" is the polar opposite. This movie is so celebratory of its murderous protagonist that by the end I was expecting Jesus to appear and give him a high-five. |
