| Now that I've got Cyberpunk 2077 on ice for a few months, I re-installed. Since I'm prepared for things to get really dark at times, I'm having a blast on second try. Some parts of Gotham look pretty cyberpunk too!
The central conceit of the game is that the entire civilian population of Gotham has gone through a mandatory evacuation so everybody you see walking on the street is fully deserving of a punch and a spiral fracture. Not even in Saints Row have I ever been this recklessly violent in an open world game, yet I'm totally the good guy here. I could see how playing on a console the tank bits could drive you crazy what with their reliance on precision aiming, but with mouse controls they aren't that bad. I just tell myself that it's a riddler challenge where he placed several arcade machines around Gotham and every now and then I have to stop and play Battlezone. And that's fine, I like Battlezone. The chases in car mode are super fun, this Batmobile is very much in line with the Nolanverse tumbler. I may have flattened a dozen or so cop cars while chasing some nutcase with a jetpack. Now like I said, these Arkham games need to be played in order. Story-wise these games take place in their own universe and some characters die or are permanently scarred before part 3. Gameplay-wise it picks up pretty much exactly where the previous games left off, with the brief tutorial focusing more on the new mechanics than the old basics. It looks fantastic on my budget GPU, with all the special rain effects turned on, too! |
