| Like most Paradoxes it's best if you roleplay a bit rather than try to minmax the hell of out. They've crammed in every scifi trope there is, so can play as pretty much whatever kind of empire you want
Last playthrough I ran an empire of spacefaring fungi who could only live on stations (and build them well). They were also a freedom loving democracy and xenophiles. So we had a lot of immigrants - who could all easily live on my stations, regardless of what kind of planet they came from. Then we discovered some ancient relic that contained an ancient progenitor of my species that I brought back to life. This species was almost the same as my original but reproduced 5x faster. With my crazy fast growing pop from immigration and fungi I dominated the Galactic Senate and got a bunch of favorable laws passed. The bad is that like a lot of paradoxes the combat system is complex and opaque. There is a decent ship designer but good luck analyzing combat reports to figure out what worked and what didn't. I generally just end up building well balanced fleets and just try to make sure the power rating of my fleet is higher than the opponent before I commit to a fight |
