I didn't have any lasting side effects, although I did experience them for several weeks (months? I don't remember) afterwards. The most notable being direct light sources looking like a fireworks explosion. Makes driving at night with oncoming headlights a treasure.
The whole procedure took maybe 15 minutes, and then they release you pretty much immediately. They jammed metal rings into my eye sockets to pop my eyes out (not literally pop them out, just push down the surrounding skin) and that was the most uncomfortable part. You'll also get the unique experience of knowing what melted eye smells like.
